Why brands move from bottles to pouches
Three reasons come up in almost every project conversation.
The first is freight. An unfilled pouch ships flat, so a container carries far more units than the equivalent empty bottles — the saving lands on your landed cost, not on ours.
The second is refill. Packaging waste rules in several export markets are pushing brands toward concentrate and refill formats, and a pouch is the cheapest compliant container to put that offer in.
The third is shelf. A pouch gives one uninterrupted print surface across the whole face, with no label application step and no seam to design around.
Materials and barrier
- PET/PE — general-purpose; suits lotions and cleansers that are not oxygen- or light-sensitive
- PET/AL/PE — aluminium layer for oxygen and light barrier; the usual starting point for vitamin C, retinol and other actives
- PET/AL/PA/PE — adds nylon for mechanical strength on larger formats and long distribution chains
- Mono-PE — single-material recyclable structure for refill programmes carrying a sustainability claim
Film selection should be confirmed on a filled sample with your actual formula. Viscosity, pH and preservative system all affect seal performance.
Spout, cap and filling line
The spout bore has to match both your product viscosity and your filling nozzle. Send the nozzle diameter you run and we match the spout to it, rather than asking you to adapt your line.
Top-centre placement suits upright retail formats. Corner placement suits thick products where the consumer needs gravity to help the last of the fill out.
Printing and finish
Gravure printing on customer-supplied artwork, with matte, glossy and soft-touch finishes. Artwork is checked for bleed, seal-zone clearance and minimum type size before plates are cut — send files at the dieline stage and anything that will not hold in print gets flagged before it costs you a plate.
Quality
Every batch is leak- and seal-tested. For a new structure we recommend approving a filled sample for drop, compression and filling-line performance before mass production — most pouch failures trace back to a spout-to-film seal that was never tested with the actual product.
